The Danish Refugee Council is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in over 40 countries to provide appropriate assistance and protection to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, people on the move and vulnerable local populations/host communities. DRC is currently seeking a Finance Assistant for a 06-month contract (renewable based on funding and performance) based in Catatumbo, Edo. Zulia, Venezuela.
About the work:
DRC is managing its operations in Venezuela, led by the country office in Caracas and three field offices located in Sucre, Apure and Zulia states. DRC Venezuela is implementing activities such as protection monitoring, legal assistance, individual protection assistance for PWSN, briefings for PoC, prevention of human trafficking, rehabilitation of health infrastructure, humanitarian interventions on improved hygiene and food safety practices.
General purpose of the role:
The Fund will be responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Base to comply with internal, external and legal requirements, in accordance with DRC and donor standards.
Main Responsibilities:
Treasury
- Control and safeguard checkbooks.
- Prepare and record payments to suppliers, checks (disbursement vouchers) and/or transfers
- Manage petty cash.
- Record all transactions made by DRC Venezuela in the ERP.
- Ensure the correctness of bank, cash and income accounting reports.
- Prepare bank account and cash reconciliations.
- Monitor advances on a monthly basis in accordance with DRC procedures.
- Verification of travel expenses according to the travel tables established by DRC in Venezuela.
Budget and Financial Management
- Planning of payments and monthly budget expenditure of projects in the operation of the Base.
Audit management
- Support the organization in all types of audits and requests for information from donors/HQ.
- Respond to audit requirements.
Accounting management
- Maintain physical and digital records of supporting documents, accounting vouchers, statements, bank and cash books.
- Check that the accounting supports comply with the legal, accounting and tax requirements.
- Preparation of information for accounting closings in the corporate ERP.
Reports
Assist in collecting, reviewing, correcting and archiving all donor financial progress reports.
Experience and Technical Skills:
Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
Experience in performing administrative tasks.
Outstanding communication skills
High level of detail
Motivation to work in the humanitarian sector
Advanced mastery in Excel and Word
Well-developed organizational and planning skills to meet deadlines
Desirable
- Experience working in NGOs
- English proficiency
- Fluency in the local language.
Education:
- Diploma or professional degree in Accounting.
