Overview of position

  • Under the supervision of the manager of the migrant resource center and the direct and technical supervision of the major nurse, the candidate will be responsible for providing medical assistance in the migrant reception centers.

Role objectives

Under the technical supervision of the major (and doctors), and under the general supervision of center managers,

  • Ensure availability and on-call duty in the infirmaries of the various reception centers according to the schedule established for this purpose;
  • Carry out medical checks upon the arrival of migrants in the centers;
  • Ensure medical consultation activities for beneficiaries at the centers and locations indicated as needed;
  • Provide medical care and ensure continuity and follow-up of the patient being treated;
  • Facilitate the referral of patients to appropriate health services, including mental health services for better care;
  • Conduct regular visits to health services where patients are kept to ensure changes in the health status of beneficiaries;
  • Contribute to creating an environment favorable to the medical care of patients;
  • Participate in the organization of Fitness To Travel (FTT) assessments for beneficiaries
  • Participate in search and rescue missions for migrants in distress with other IOM units to provide emergency medical assistance;
  • Organize medical escorts for beneficiaries whose health conditions require it;
  • Organize monitoring activities through regular visits to the different dormitories and key areas in order to check the health and hygiene conditions of beneficiaries at the reception centers, reception sites/villas, train station, and other places indicated if necessary;
  • Participate in collaboration with other units of the centers in awareness sessions on hygiene and prevention principles for beneficiaries;
  • Ensure hygiene and sanitation are maintained in the infirmary and centers;
  • Ensure the collection and recording of data relating to medical activities carried out, in accordance with the procedures put in place;
  • Ensure effective management of medicines and medical inputs by regularly keeping a consumption register;
  • Facilitate administrative monitoring of the service;
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings at the IOM;
  • Prepare all administrative documents, reports among others to submit to supervisors on time;+
  • Any other tasks that may be entrusted to him.

Key competencies

EDUCATION

  • Holder of a state nursing diploma

EXPERIENCE

  • At least (3) three years of experience in the field of health, hygiene and nursing;
  • Experience in humanitarian activities;
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel;
  • Knowledge of the migration context a plus;
  • Knowledge in General Medicine,

SKILLS

  • In-depth knowledge of the wide range of migration-related areas covered by the Organization; And,
  • Knowledge of United Nations programming and bilateral donors.
  • Knowledge of financial rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
