Up to 130 students ages 5 \u2013 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and social emotional learning classes. Field Trips are held on Fridays.<\/p>\n<p>Peer Mentors support the students&#8217; academic and social emotional growth during the Academy. Peer Mentors will be placed with a single class of students for the six-week duration of the Academy, supporting all Classroom Teachers to ensure productive and enriching lessons and to serve as positive role models for students.<\/p>\n<p>From Monday to Thursday, Peer Mentors work either the morning shift (8:00am to 12:00pm) or the afternoon shift (12:00pm to 4:00pm). On Fridays, all Peer Mentors work the full day (8:00am to 4:00pm) to support students and staff on field trips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete all staff training prior to the start of the program, as well as all program meetings and staff development activities thereafter<\/li>\n<li>Model appropriate student behavior and academic engagement with the Academy students at all times<\/li>\n<li>Assist teachers and staff with various classroom activities and lessons on a daily basis<\/li>\n<li>Tutor students individually or in small groups at the direction of the teacher<\/li>\n<li>Assist in supervision of daily student meals and student arrival\/dismissal<\/li>\n<li>Assist teachers and staff with whole school community building activities<\/li>\n<li>Attend all field trips on Fridays and assist teachers and staff in student supervision<\/li>\n<li>Act as a positive role model for students<\/li>\n<li>Assist teachers and staff with classroom management<\/li>\n<li>Complete all staff evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Other tasks as assigned by Classroom Teachers and IRC staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong> <em>*Candidates must have participated in the IRC\u2019s Leaders in Training Program during the 2023-2024 school year and maintained an LIT Grade of 75% or higher*<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum age: 17+ and must be <em>at least<\/em> a rising high school senior<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of classroom procedures; health and safety precautions a plus.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with children and\/or peers highly desired<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Strong team player who is self-directed<\/li>\n<li>Mature, reliable, flexible, and punctual<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in written and spoken English required. Second language proficiency in relevant language highly desirable (including Arabic, Dari, Farsi, French, Fulani, Haitian Creole, Mandarin, Mandingo, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Tigrinya, Ukrainian, Wolof)<\/li>\n<li>Must be available for all training days and for the entire duration of the program. No exceptions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working Environment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Academy takes place in a centrally located New York City public school. All participants must be willing to relocate to New York City for the entirety of the Program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Compensation:<\/strong> Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, full-time employees are eligible for 10 US paid holidays, 20-25 paid time off days, disability &#038; life insurance, medical, dental, and vision insurance (employee contribution starting at $135, $7, and $5 per month respectively) and FSA for healthcare, childcare, and commuter costs.
