APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n<p>APHRC seeks to recruit <strong>a Researcher<\/strong> to work in the Aging and Development (AAD) unit within the Population Dynamics and Urbanization thematic area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities (dependent on level appointed):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conceptualize and develop research program of work on aging in Africa, contribute to project management and coordination of research activities;<\/li>\n<li>Lead and contribute to financial sustainability of the unit through fundraising efforts and cultivating relations with key institutional donors;<\/li>\n<li>Lead and contribute to scientific paper writing and other publications including policy\/research briefs, fact sheets and blogs;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in periodic reporting and strategic planning for the unit and theme;<\/li>\n<li>Lead policy engagement, knowledge translation and communication to appropriate audiences;<\/li>\n<li>Represent the Center at local, national, regional and international forums, including relevant technical working groups and expert committees;<\/li>\n<li>Supervise, mentor and train junior researchers in the unit and the Center at large.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications and Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD in Gerontology, Social Work, Demography, Population Studies, Sociology, Public Health or any other aging-related discipline;<\/li>\n<li>Strong writing skills and a good publications record, experience in developing proposals. Evidence of previous successful grants will be an advantage;<\/li>\n<li>Strong quantitative or qualitative skills and experience with mixed methods will be an added advantage provided one is solid in either quantitative or qualitative methods;<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience and excellence in conducting desk and literature reviews; managing, analyzing and interpreting complex data and familiarity with analytical software;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work in a culturally diverse team.;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id='how-to-apply'  id=\"boomdevs_1\">How to apply<\/h2>\n<p>Successful candidates <strong>may<\/strong> be appointed at Associate Research Scientist (3-5 years after PhD), Research Scientist (6-11 years after PhD) or Senior Research Scientist (12+ years after PhD) levels depending on <strong>experience and track record<\/strong>. The position comes with an attractive, internationally competitive remuneration package including medical, travel and life insurance cover. Allowances toward in-relocation (for those recruited from outside Kenya) and dependents&#8217; education are also provided. Nationals of sub-Saharan African countries are highly encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p>These positions are classified under <em>Internationally Recruited Positions (IRP), Grades III to VI<\/em> in our scales.
