Programme Manager, Western West Africa (based in Mauritania)<\/strong><\/p>\n

About MAG<\/strong><\/p>\n

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.<\/p>\n

About MAG\u2019s Sahel and West Africa programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n

MAG operates across the Sahel and West Africa, contributing to Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) through activities such as Weapons & Ammunition Management (WAM), Community Risk Reduction (CRR), and Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA).<\/p>\n

Within the Western West Africa (WWA) portfolio \u2014<\/strong> which includes Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Guinea \u2014 MAG focuses on implementing WAM activities in close collaboration with national defence and security authorities to ensure the safe storage, management, and destruction of weapons and munitions. In Mauritania, Senegal, and Guinea Bissau, MAG also implements Humanitarian Mine Action activities aimed at sustainably strengthening national capacities, through capacity development of national mine action centres and though non-technical surveys and risk education sessions, which help identify and quantify the extent of mine contamination in these countries.<\/p>\n

About the role<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Programme Manager (PM) will act as MAG\u2019s senior country representative for internal and external stakeholders, while assuming responsibility for the management and delivery of all projects in the country. They will lead and manage the country Senior Management Team (SMT), and report to the Regional Programme Manager (RPM). The PM will develop effective relationships and networks with relevant stakeholders including national and local authorities, donors, UN agencies, national partners, NGO forums, the wider NGO, community and commercial operators in the region, and represent MAG at country level meetings across wide range of stakeholders. They will also support the RPM in identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand MAG programme activities in new locations within the country and be responsible for national partner project management and implementation.<\/p>\n

About you<\/strong><\/p>\n

The successful candidate will have relevant overseas of working on development\/humanitarian projects at a senior level, preferably in a conflict or post-conflict environment. You will have extensive experience of developing, supporting and managing projects including implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation and contract compliance. You will have proven expertise in the development and management of new business, including proposal development, networking and contract negotiations, and experience of having developed successful relationships and negotiated with donors, government bodies, other NGOs and local partners. Experience of managing finance, logistics & procurement, administrative and HR systems to ensure project efficiency is required.<\/p>\n

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with outstanding influencing and negotiating skills are key to the role. You will also have strong writing skills and capability to quality review proposals, budgets, reports and other communications for donors and other stakeholders. The postholder will be innovative, proactive and resilient, to manage a varied and demanding workload with competing demands and priorities.<\/p>\n

Fluent written and spoken English language skills required.<\/strong><\/p>\n
