POSITION GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Protection Management, it will support the implementation of actions and activities to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV), as well as awareness-raising activities about GBV in the intervention municipalities. It will also contribute to the incorporation of the gender and intersectional approach in the different protection activities, as well as in the GBV prevention and response strategy in protection activities in Nariño.

Under the supervision of the Protection Management, it will support the field implementation of all Protection objectives under the projects in DRC implementation. Will participate in other protection activities within the framework of the joint actions of the DRC-Nariño Protection Unit as required.

You will develop and maintain good relationships with persons of interest, relevant stakeholders, institutional actors and humanitarian actors, allowing you to adequately facilitate and ensure DRC Protection activities. The importance of teamwork skills is also highlighted.

It will contribute to guaranteeing the quality of the planning, implementation and monitoring of protection activities in the intervention municipalities.

Responsibilities:

• Implement actions and activities to respond and prevent gender-based violence (GBV) in the municipalities of intervention in accordance with the protection strategy, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and under the coordination of the Protection Management. . This includes facilitating appropriate actions, including psychosocial support and referrals to specialist services.

  • Implement awareness-raising activities on GBV in accordance with the protection strategy and under the coordination of the Protection Management.
  • Participate in training and/or training spaces for other protection activities, e.g. community-based protection activities or capacity building.
  • Continuously monitor and document the needs of persons of interest and with greater emphasis on needs associated with GBV.
  • Support the development and updating of mapping of actors and services for the response and mitigation of GBV risks and activation of routes, guaranteeing follow-up on the referral and its effective implementation.
  • Carry out information dissemination activities on rights protection issues and on issues surrounding GBV.
  • Follow the given work plans and guidelines regarding the implementation strategy of GBV activities and other protection activities.
  • Maintain good relationships with persons of concern, relevant stakeholders and other external actors to support and facilitate the appropriate implementation of GBV response, prevention and awareness activities.
  • Guarantee the application of protection principles and the gender, intersectional and GBV survivor-based approach transversally in all its activities, including confidentiality and informed consent.
  • Support the administrative processes, support, document management and verification means necessary for the development of activities and reports to the MERA Unit, in accordance with DRC internal procedures.
  • Maintain permanent communication and coordination with the Protection Management and the protection team for efficient and quality planning.
  • Participate in the implementation of other assigned general protection activities in accordance with programmatic objectives and identified needs
  • Participate in technical supervision spaces with a GBV specialist.
  • Participate in case studies carried out on GBV, promoting good practices and response needs.

  • Report to the immediate boss the need to take corrective or preventive actions, which correspond to real or potential non-conformities of the process to which it belongs.
  • Participate in training activities, drills and those that are scheduled from safety and health at work.
  • Participate and contribute to the fulfillment of the SG-SST policy and objectives.

EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Minimum one (1) year of experience in community work, social work, human rights, prevention of gender-based violence, care for people at risk and survivors of GBV, work with OSIEGD people

• Knowledge of the context and humanitarian situation of the department of Nariño.

• Knowledge of differential approaches (AGD) and work with ethnic communities. • Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Excellent skills in MS Word and Excel

• Willingness and ability to learn

Desirable:

  • Field experience and work with refugees, migrants, internally displaced people, ethnic communities.
  • Experience in psychological first aid and psychosocial support.
  • Calm and diplomatic character.
  • Good team work; ability to create a good environment.
  • English proficiency is an advantage

Requirements in terms of Academic Training and technical knowledge:

  • Undergraduate with a degree in Social Sciences and Education (Social Work, Psychology, Pedagogy, Bachelor’s Degree, Sociology and related)

Languages:

• Spanish (mandatory)

• Written understanding of the English language (is an advantage)
