Position overview:
Chemonics International is seeking a Violent Extremism Prevention Manager for the NELY (Northern Economic Livelihood for Youth) activity planned in Benin and funded by USAID. The NELY activity specifically targets young people living in northern Benin, particularly young men who are at risk of recruitment by violent extremist groups. This proposed activity will listen to young men and women and work with them to design specific interventions at the local level that aim to improve purchasing powers, develop self-sufficiency and improve inclusion in the modern economic market. To do this, it will introduce relevant technologies, establish partnerships with the private sector and seek solutions that involve vulnerable young men and women. Through co-creation, young men and women will work together, develop interconnectedness, mutual interdependence and greater community resilience, and have meaningful life experiences that invest them in the development of their communities.
The Mission Manager will oversee project implementation, providing overall leadership, management and technical direction to achieve project objectives. He will also serve as liaison between USAID, Beninese government counterparts, civil society organizations, and other public and private sector stakeholders. We’re looking for people who have a passion for improving the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic vision, management and technical direction for program activities related to livelihoods.
- Build relationships with the private sector, relevant ministries and other stakeholders.
- Lead the development of aspects of the work plan related to preventing violent extremism.
- Support economic development assessments and use data to inform programming.
- Collaborate with operations, monitoring and evaluation, grants and other program teams to implement, monitor and close activities.
Qualification :
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as, but not limited to, international relations, conflict analysis, international development, social sciences or law.
- At least thirteen (13) years of progressively responsible management experience within a United States Government entity, international aid organization, or non-governmental organization in the areas of community development, stabilization, conflict resolution, democracy and governance, reconciliation, citizen security and/or political analysis
- At least seven (7) years of overseas field experience in the areas of stabilization, reconciliation, local governance, conflict prevention, dispute resolution, community development or other relevant programs;
- At least five (5) years of supervisory experience (including mentoring, training and orientation of staff).
- Experience working or supporting programs in the West Africa region preferred.
- The position will likely be based in Cotonou, with significant regular travel to northern Benin.
- Fluency in English and French, both oral and written
