Doctors of the World, militant medical association of international solidarity, has been committed for more than 40 years to treat the most vulnerable populations here and there, to testify to the obstacles noted as to access to care and to obtain lasting improvements in health policies for all.
Independent association, Doctors of the World acts beyond care by denouncing attacks on dignity and human rights and by fighting to improve the situation of precarious populations.
In France and abroad in nearly 30 countries, our actions aim to facilitate access to the health system thanks to Our 6 priority fights :
- Sexual and reproductive rights and health (DSSR)
- Exile and health exile migration
- Risk reduction
- Environmental health
- Health systems
- Humanitarian spaces
The context
MDM France is currently present in Kinshasa through:
- A program in Dsexual and reproductive health For young people in African megalopolis
- A program of Mother and child health promotion In support of 4 health centers and 2 major maternities
- A coalition of advocacy On unwanted pregnancies
- A program of Health promotion of the market maraicher.ère.s and environmental protection. The misuse of pesticides in market gardening is the central problem of the project. The project provides for actions to strengthen the capacities of market maraichers for ecological practices in their production, for the promotion of the health of market maraicher.ère.ère by improving access to health care and finally advocacy for more protective legislation of the environment and workers.
MDM France also intervenes in the province of Tanganyika on emergency programs : response to measles epidemics and vaccination with the complete implementation of the minimum package of activities in primary health care, nutrition and sexual and reproductive health and support for health centers affected by various crises.
In November 2024, MDM (present on Goma until 2018 through a HIV program) carried out an exploratory mission in order to identify the GAPs in health for displaced populations and hosts in North Kivu. Following the degradation of the situation with in particular the taking of the city of Goma last January, MDM is currently carrying out a first emergency response through the support for health structures in Goma and its periphery in favor of the displaced populations forced to leave the camps. Faced with humanitarian needs, MDM is looking for additional funding to increase the number of mobile clinics and health structures to be supported in order to allow access to primary health care and the management of vital emergencies for internal displaced populations and hosts in North Kivu.
