IMPACT ET REACH
Reach was born in 2010 as a joint initiative of two international NGOs (Impact Initiatives and ACTED) and the United Nations Program for Operational Applications by Satellite (UNOSAT). The objective of Reach is to promote and facilitate the development of information products that improve decision -making capacity and planning humanitarian community in contexts of emergency, reconstruction and development. Reach facilitates information management for assistance actors through three additional services: (a) the evaluation of needs and the situation facilitated by the REACH teams; b) Analysis of the situation using satellite imaging; c) Provision of databases and mapping (web) and related expertise (web).
Impact Initiatives is a humanitarian NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization manages several initiatives, including the Reach initiative. The Impact team is made up of specialists in collection, data management and analysis and GIS. Impact was launched on the initiative of ACTED, an international NGO whose headquarters are based in Paris and is present in around thirty countries. The two organizations have a strong complementarity formalized in a global partnership, allowing impact to benefit from the operational support of ACTED in its fields of intervention.
Country profile
RCA continues to deal with a serious crisis of protection, with a constant increase in human rights violations and international humanitarian law despite the signing of the political agreement for peace and reconciliation in 2019. Those who suffer the most are the civilian population. One in four Central African are moved either inside the country or in a neighboring country, and the waves of return from displaced and repatriated people have slowed considerably. In 2022, 3.1 million people will need humanitarian assistance and protection. The impoverishment of households and the degradation of essential services have considerably impacted their living conditions. From now on, two-thirds of the population fight on a daily basis to treat themselves, feed, accommodate themselves, send their children to school or stock up on drinking water.
Impact and RCA
Impact has been operating in RCA since 2015 through its Reach initiative supporting the rapid response mechanism funded in an information management capacity. Following an exponential growth in 2019 with the launch of multisectoral evaluations of needs at the national level, Impact now implements 8 research cycles through its three initiatives: Reach, Agora and Panda, in support) of the planning and prioritization of the humanitarian response; b) support for resilience, recovery and preparation for the response to shocks; c) Information on assistance methods.
