Akros Research supports a program funded by the Mastercard Foundation and in partnership with the Africa CDC. This initiative, called Saving Lives and Livelihoods, includes multiple components and partners that work to safely procure, distribute, and promote vaccine uptake. As part of this consortium, Akros Research will support African Union Member States in the Eastern and Southern Africa regions to strengthen vaccine safety monitoring systems.

The Local Associate will support Akros Research in the implementation and coordination of program activities, ensuring successful implementation of the SLL program vaccine safety monitoring. The Associate will actively liaise with key stakeholders within the respective government, district and sub-district stakeholders, vaccination stakeholders and Akros Research senior management to facilitate the achievement of program objectives and optimize resource flow.

Special responsibilities

  1. Develop collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders (Ministry of Health, National Regulatory Authority, WHO and sub-national levels) to ensure project activities are highlighted and good relationships are built.
  2. Work closely with government pharmacovigilance contact points to plan upcoming technical activities.
  3. Coordinate implementation logistics at national, district and health facility levels (coordinate advance requests and ensure all expenditures are in line with established budgets).
  4. Liaise with the Djibouti Ministry of Health to ensure that all planned activities are facilitated in a timely manner and objectives are achieved
  5. Identify implementation issues and propose possible solutions to address them, which are shared in a timely manner with key stakeholders.
  6. Maintain regular communication with implementation counterparts at the Ministry of Health.
  7. Ensure all forms and records are documented and up to date.
  8. Liaise with Akros Research to ensure effective and efficient program delivery and provide detailed reporting to project management.
  9. Work closely with other SLL program implementers to ensure effective program implementation.
  10. Assist in evidence generation, data collection, analysis and use of data as required.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Master’s degree (preferably advanced) in pharmacy, public health, monitoring and evaluation or any other relevant field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in program management
  • Strong experience working with government health ministries, donors, district and sub-district structures and managing a dynamic team
  • Previous experience representing projects and organisations to the Ministry of Health at national or sub-national levels is an added advantage.
  • Autonomous who will flourish by demonstrating belonging and initiative
  • Excellent technical writing, quantitative and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent data analysis skills
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • The candidate must be highly productive and internally motivated
  • The candidate must work well under complex and difficult delivery deadlines.
  • The candidate must be culturally adaptable and sensitive
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with minimal instruction in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate productively remotely
  • Djiboutian national preferred

Location and duration

This position is contingent upon the program securing and maintaining funding. It is also subject to donor approval.

This position is a short term engagement of 5 months and will be based in Djibouti City, Djibouti. The position is open to local candidates and may involve minimal travel.

Reports

This position will report directly to the National Director of Akros, with a dotted line of reporting to the Pharmacovigilance Coordinator, Ministry of Health.
